Theme

 

Theme this year will include science, social studies and health. I will be alternating subject areas through out the year. Students will be asked to do projects and experiments to demonstrate their learning. Each theme unit has essential standards that they will need to learn.

 

Social Studies

Our 5th grade social studies curriculum is an introduction to American History. We start with the early explorers and move up through Westward Expansion. Towards the end of the year we will do a unit on lighthouse history as well.

 

Science

 

We have a new Science curriculum this year called STEMscopes. This curriculum is designed with a constuctivist model. This means it is student centered and hands-on. Students build their own understanding of a concept through this process and internalize key concepts. We will also have a marine touch tank and work with animal classification.
