Writing Workshop

Our Writing Workshop for Fifth Grade builds heavily on what students worked on during their Fourth Grade writing time. We will be following Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Teaching Writing. This program focuses on three major styles of writing: narrative, informational, and opinion writing. The Writing Workshop model consists of a short mini-lesson at the start of the workshop focusing on building a skill for the unit. Then, the students have time to write, practice the skill, and conference about their writing with peers or teachers.
